Pottery People
Here are my pottery people to look at. Goggle, gaze and gawp in awe and wonder at my glazed geezers, blue blokes, ceramic chaps, clay companions, kiln-baked chums and oven-fired friends. They were made in about 1994 over a period of several months, at the Clarendon Centre in Turnpike Lane in North London, a venue at the forefront of the innovative Turnpike Lane Ceramic Art Movement at that time. Ever since their glorious creation back in those crazy, hazy days they have been destined to spend most of their lives tucked away on a narrow shelf in a fitted cupboard made of white melamine with a sliding door. What a shocking waste I sense you are thinking! But the good news is that very occasionally they get released from their static state to come out for a rare photo shoot and this is when they really get to express themselves as only they can in their own individualistic inimitable way.
This page was created in about May 2004 and is updated from time to time, though writing now in September 2007 it is a fair time ago when they last were photographed. The photographs in the top three rows also include pottery furniture consisting of four chairs, a bench and a table which I lovingly made with my own fair hand. Pottery is traditionally displayed in a formal, non-interactive setting such as a gallery which is ideal for most pottery I suppose. But I wanted my pottery chums that I painstakingly created to come to life in their own unique way and I knew that they would be happiest when I allowed them to interact with their surroundings. They are photographed here at home in a variety of imaginative settings both in the kitchen and in the garden.
The images used to show up en masse on 'google image search' by typing something like 'pottery people sitting' but when I last checked in September 2007 they were no longer found which was rather disappointing as naturally I want visitors, grumble grumble.
If you wish to use any of my images, would like me to make any in a particular setting or would simply like to comment on my pottery people please email me at: richardadam at blueyonder dot co dot uk. A lady working for a living design company in Holland emailed to ask if she could use some of my images on their corporate website and they coloured them orange; coincidentally it happens to be the national colour of the Netherlands.
